BSc Biotechnology programme of Evangel University Akaeze (EUA) is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary area with various job opportunities in local and international economy. The biotechnology department is highly focused and very sensitive to development in the bio professional and catchment areas of the immediate economy. It has zero tolerance for religious, social and ethnic sentiments in line with EUA policy on student admission and academic staff employment. With amiable and dedicated lecturers students are sure of adequate exposure to relevant areas of the biotechnology profession.

Owing to demand for breed of biotechnologists with excellent knowledge of modern techniques and biological systems, our curriculum has been prepared to ensure that requirements of graduates are catered for. Students are industrially exposed to enable them exploit technological skills for any competitive environments. As a team the department is sensitive to trainees’ response and provides windows for one on one interaction. Our biotechnology training is carefully designed for those that are inspired for teamwork and progressive contributions in health care and pharmaceutical industries, food and animal production, educational and research institutions, environmental management and wealth creation. At the beginning of every academic session domestic and international candidates who have met the entry requirements of faculty of biological Science, admission and joint matriculation board are expected to join us for a worthwhile training. We are looking forward to giving you a warm reception in the semester.

Philosophy of the Degree Programme

The philosophy of the Biotechnology programme is to train competent Biotechnologists who will be able to apply modern Biotechnology techniques to solve real-life problems, by promoting Biotechnology activities that meet national aspiration in education, food security, healthcare delivery, job/wealth creation and sustainable environment. The programme has been designed to impart sound understanding of concepts and methodologies of modern molecular Biotechnology in key areas that meet the needs of the society.

Mission
The Department of Biotechnology keys into the university’s mission and vision. The university’s mission is to offer total education for the total liberation of the total/whole man; for total service to God, man, the individual, and the society at large through scientific enquiry, academic integrity, tolerance of diverse views and options, coupled with faith in God’s word.

Vision
The vision of the university is to give total education to the total man and so produce graduates who shall be equipped and motivated to be leaders and role models in Nigeria’s public and private sector and so be instrumental and deeply involved in bringing about the much needed development in Nigeria with the fear of God.

Objective of the Degree Programme

The main objectives of the programme are

1. To produce high level manpower in biotechnology who are capable of appreciating and applying interdisciplinary approach to the use of biological agents, and system for the benefit of mankind.

2. To train competent Biotechnologists with capacity for independent research who can become self-employed in the various areas of biotechnology and can function effectively in academia and private sector.

3. To provide a solid base for excellent research in special areas of Biotechnology at higher degree level.

4. To stimulate interest in caring for the global environment.

5. To prepare students for graduate and professional studies in the life-sciences at the molecular level.
