EARLY LIFE
The Rev. Abel Ukachi Amadi, Ph.D. was born in 1959 to Mr. & Mrs. Amadi Ozurumba of Umuchukwu, Mpama Egbu in Owerri North L.G.A. of Imo State, Nigeria. He is the sixth child and the fourth son of his parents.
EDUCATION
Rev. Abel Ukachi Amadi had his Primary education at Central School, Egbu, Owerri from 1971 to 1976 and his Secondary School education at Comprehensive Secondary School, Egbu from 1976 to 1980 where he obtained his West African School Certificate( WASC) in June 1980 and General Certificate of Education(GCE) in November also in 1980 respectively . He had his Diploma in Theology and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Christian Education from the Assemblies of God Divinity School of Nigeria, Old Umuahia, Abia State following his call to the Pastoral Ministry in 1981. He obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Master’s Degree (M.ED) in Educational Administration and Planning from the University of Calabar, Cross Rivers State.
Rev. Amadi completed a second Master’s Degree (M.A.) in Religion at Imo State University, Owerri and subsequently a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Religious and Cultural Studies at the same University.
AWARDS/ SOCIAL LIFE.
Rev. Amadi has won many awards of excellence within the country due to his outstanding Performance and achievements in leadership, and positive contributions to the body of Christ and the general society. Notably among the awards is the award of Justice of Peace (JP) by the Imo State Government. Rev Amadi has widely traveled around the world attending conferences.
MINISTERIAL CALL/ACHIEVEMENTS
The good Lord captured the zealous Abel Amadi very early in life. He gave his life to Jesus Christ in 1975 while in Primary School and has remained a committed child of God till date. He received the call of God upon his life in 1980 and left for pastoral ministry in 1981 after working very briefly with Ashamu Group of Companies, Lagos, as an Account Clerk.
Rev. Amadi successfully pastored four Churches before being elected as District Superintendent of Owerri East District of Assemblies of God Nigeria in 2009. These four Churches include:
AGC Umuezegwu, Ihitte–Uboma (1981 – 1986);
AGC Umuaka Orlu – (1986 – 1993);
AGC Alaenyi Ogwa – (1993 – 1997);
AGC Ikenegbu Owerri (1997 – 2009).
At his last pastoral station, Assemblies of God Church, Ikenegbu, the Rev Abel Ukachi Amadi revolutionized the pattern of erecting AG Church Buildings by constructing an exemplary ultra–modern auditorium that became the cynosure of all eyes and which has challenged many other pastors to follow suit. He also changed the hitherto stereotypical Sunday School October Enlargement Campaign program of the church into “Kingdom Enlargement and Music Festival”. This attracted notable Gospel Music Artistes who drew crowds of people every Sunday in the month of October. The program brought many souls to Christ and expanded AG Churches in Owerri-East District. Also, while serving in these Churches, Rev Amadi initiated many soul enriching, human empowerment and Church growth programmes.
He founded the Evangel Model Secondary School Owerri - a full boarding school for boys and girls owned by the Assemblies of God, Nigeria, Owerri-East District. He is the initiator of a scholarship programme for the children of the indigent pastors and members of the Church in Owerri East District of the Assemblies of God Nigeria.
LEADERSHIP POSITIONS
The Rev. Abel Ukachi Amadi has held several leadership positions in the Church. He has served as a Senior Pastor,sectional leader, District Treasurer of Owerri District before being elected as District Superintendent of Owerri East District in 2009.
Rev. Amadi has held different positions at the National Church level: He was a member of the Executive Committee (EC), the highest policy making body of Assemblies of God Nigeria, from 2014 – 2022. He headed various committees within the same period such as the Committee on Education for the determination of Bible Schools Financial Autonomy, Chairman Project Assessment Committee , Chairman AG Press and Bookshop, Chairman of Panels of Investigation on various issues. He also served as a Board Member of the Assemblies of God Ministers Benefit (AGMBS)and is currently the chairman of the Scheme.
Dr. Abel Ukachi Amadi was elected the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Nigeria during its Council Meeting in November 2022, a position that has conferred on him the oversight function of over sixteen thousand Pastors and more than three million members; 133 administrative Districts or Units and Areas across the nation and institutions owned by the Church such as Bible Schools, AG Mortgage Bank PLC, and is today being installed as Chancellor of Evangel University, Akaeze, Ebonyi State.
FAMILY LIFE
Rev. Abel Ukachi Amadi is married to Rev. Mrs. Best Chioma Amadi and their marriage is blessed with four lovely children ( All are graduates) and many grandchildren.
