The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is domicile in the College of Arts and Social Sciences. The Nescient Department was mounted on 6th February 2018 as a part of the 2017/2018 programmes of Evangel University, Akaeze, Ebonyi State.
The Department took off with two academic staff; one lecturer II on contract and one assistant lecturer on regular employment. The startup students of the department were six in number. From then, all hands were on deck to steer the department towards the vision of the founding fathers of the University: Education for the Total Man. Our undergraduate curricular are firmly anchored on the principle of providing the fundamental knowledge needed to produce critical and competitive sociologists. Daunting challenges associated with new institutions like Evangel University notwithstanding, the Department has been able to have a conducive office accommodation and also able to send staff for seminars, courtesy of management.
The students are happy and most of them are showing signs of positive academic and good character improvement. We insist on praxis (learning by doing). Therefore, we make it a matter of departmental policy for our students to strive to apply what they learn to test and understand their immediate environment and beyond. Our core areas include Developmental Sociology, Industrial Sociology and Human Resource Development. The product of the Department can then be self-reliant, entrepreneurs, and employers of labour.
